St. Paul Church and Well
The St. Paul Church is located in Tarsus, the birthplace of St. Paul one the 12 apostles of Jesus, and is candidate for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Having escaped the religious oppression in Jerusalem and Rome, Christianity, with the efforts of St. Paul, came to fruition on the tolerant soils of Anatolia.
The church is the site where the first congregations gathered and from where Christianity spread and is therefore one of the important pilgrimage centers. The St. Paul Well in the garden is considered sacred and is believed to have a healing effect.
